Barn Raising

Recently I spent a gorgeous day in Derbyshire, helping a family with friends raise a beautiful Oak timber frame building.  All the really hard work was already done. They had spent the last year splitting, carving, shaving, planning, marking out and axing the majestic Oak trees, which made the raising much easier than we all had imagined.  Once it was up we were climbing all over the frame, pegging the joints together and putting in the A frames to get ready for the giant ridge pole.

A truly inspiring day working as a community.  It taps into a wonderful sense of spirit and group will power to get a job done. Next job to make all the oak shingles by hand.  Count me in.
