Material details from a design and build Floating Garden Shelter project I installed at the end of last year.
We created a dynamic outdoor space with the bold use of a black stain as the dominant colour on the large herringbone Larch cladding. Darkness also comes in the form of Phenolic Plywood on the ceiling echoing the strong geometric design with a hexagon relief pattern.
This is then contrasted with the use of a pale Accoya wood for the deck, sat on granite filled gabion baskets. As well as using strong lines of Iroko hardwood in the main structure, we have used it in the floating carved bench, which really brings warmth and connection to the whole design.
The humble 20mm gravel also enhances the difference in texture and adds to the sensory experience of sitting in the outdoor shelter.
